Fudge is a consumable,
fun exciting product. It will NOT take away sales from existing lines and merchandise,
converting a large percentage of "just browsers" into profitable
buyers. Whether a gift store, specialty confection, ice cream store, candy & chocolate
shop, or if fudge is the only food item, it is a great addition and
more importantly "it sells very well". To name some of our customers'
business theme: gift shops, trading posts, village themes, chocolate
& candy, craft, hardware and grocery stores, fruit orchards,
interior decorations, flower, donut, gas station variety shops, fundraising and more. It makes a great "add-on" sale with high margins.
FRESH: The key to creating a strong 50%++ profit centre is to insure the customer is receiving a FRESH product. Every slice of fudge has a ‘best before before date label’ and is individually shrink wrapped. This indicates freshness to your customers and helps you – as retailers – maintain good rotation of your inventory. Customers APPRECIATE freshness. It comes through in taste and your integrity as a retailer.
Yes – Fudge does well with tourists.
Yes – Fudge does well as an impulse buy.
BUT – mainly regular customers develop quickly. People enjoy coming in – almost weekly – to get their ‘glass of milk’. Fresh.
It is well understood that Fudge helps get many operations through winter months when sales start to slow down. As Fudge is a comfort item – this profit centre is somewhat recession proof.
DON'T GET CAUGHT OFF GUARD: To achieve maximum sales we recommend to provide a good impulse location (close to cash register), maintain a clean, neat, attractive and "FULL" display. Display down to half? This is the time to reorder. Remember to rotate your stock. Maintaining this full display will achieve the best results. During slow times reduce display quantity.
We do not recommend you refrigerate or freeze the fudge as the risk of temperature spikes can cause instability and problems to the product. But when selling fudge you can tell your customers that they can refrigerate the fudge as it will be eaten quickly (we’re confident of this!).
